What You Never Want to Do Once You Have Dental Veneers
Posted on 7/26/2021 by Amy Chichetti
Dental veneers are a great addition to a smile and can provide a brighter, whiter, and healthier look. Dental veneers, or porcelain veneers, are custom-made shells that cover the front surface of teeth. Veneers are tooth-colored, so they fit naturally with the rest of your smile. Dental veneers are used if there are cosmetic issues such as discoloration, cracks, stains, or other abnormalities. Veneers are less likely to stain than colored teeth, which is a benefit as well, but there are important things to remember when keeping your dental veneers safe and healthy.
What Not to Do
It is very important not to assume that your veneers are indestructible. They are less likely to stain, but they can still be damaged if not treated properly. Using a hard bristled brush can create abrasions in veneers, so it is important to use a soft-bristled toothbrush, and while still brushing thoroughly, it is not necessary to provide extensive pressure. Baking soda can also be damaging to veneers and can be found in toothpaste. When choosing a toothpaste, be sure not to choose one that has baking soda as an ingredient. While brushing, use a circular motion rather than back and forth. Also, just as sugary foods and drinks can damage regular teeth, they can damage veneers by forming cavities under the veneers. Rinsing the mouth out after eating sugary foods can help keep your teeth healthy.
Dental veneers are a great way to create confidence in yourself through your smile. Having a fresh and bright smile can be a life-changer. Dental veneers are fairly stain resistant, at least more so than regular teeth, but in order to create the ultimate lifespan for your veneers, it is important to take care of them correctly.
