Porcelain Crowns

Dental crowns are an excellent way to restore a smile. They are able to repair cracks, chips, and discoloration of teeth while potentially creating a stronger tooth overall with certain materials such as porcelain. At Chichetti & Patel Dental Wellness we want to ensure that you have the cosmetic services available to you that fit your needs.

What Are Dental Crowns?

The versatility of a dental crown is tremendous. They serve both practical and cosmetic needs, from restoring functionality for decayed teeth to covering unwanted chipping. They are permanently fixed on top of your natural crown and act as a replacement. Crowns can be made from different materials giving you the flexibility to choose your style and/or spend what is comfortable for you.

Porcelain-Fused-To-Metal Crowns

When it comes to a crown that will hold up under years of use while being the most accurate in appearance to your other teeth, porcelain is unmatched for these combined points. The material is so durable, in fact that they could make your teeth stronger than they were initially at their healthiest! These crowns are lined with metal to give them their famous durability while the exterior is all porcelain to give the appearance of a natural tooth.

All-Ceramic/All Porcelain

Ceramic crowns are similar to porcelain in appearance due to the similarities of the two materials. Instead of the base of the crown being metal, all-ceramic/porcelain crowns are only made up of that material. They are a bit cheaper overall compared to their metal fused versions, while providing the same outward appearance. They won’t be quite as durable, but both porcelain and ceramic are strong on their own.

Resin

We cannot talk about crown materials without mentioning resin - in fact it is the most popular crown material. Resin is a versatile and affordable material that shows up a lot in both cosmetic and general dentistry. Resin is favored among many people because it is able to match the color of the surrounding teeth while coming at a cost lower than porcelain and ceramic crowns. This material is functional, but you might have to get it fixed/replaced sooner.

Gold Crowns

Gold crowns are favored for their functional purposes. They are among the strongest crowns you can buy. Obviously, gold will not match the color of natural teeth, but for some - that is the appeal. Gold is desired for its status, durability, and longevity.

Material Summary

At Chichetti & Patel Dental Wellness we want you to receive what works best for you. Porcelain and ceramic crowns are great if you want long-lasting crowns that can potentially be with you for up to 20 years. Gold is for those who want a unique style while having a crown that can last for up to 30 years - it is truly a set and forget type of crown for the most part. Resin will give you maximum value when restoring a smile, amd with good care a resin crown can have you smiling for up to 10 years!
